What started as 2,416 acres of land, 106 students and six professors has grown to more than 5,200 acres, 73,000 students and 3,500 faculty members. The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2026 marks the 150th class of Texas A&M University and includes more than 12,000 students from across the United States and the world.
As these Aggies began classes this fall, they joined the more than 528,000 individuals who have attended Texas A&M since the university opened in 1876. Under the Morrill Act, also known as the Land-Grant College Act, a commission accepted a land offer from Brazos County citizens in 1871, and five years later, instruction began.
Today, Texas A&M has become one of the nation’s premier research universities and holds the triple distinction of land-, sea- and space-grant designations. It also houses 135 undergraduate degree programs, 176 master’s degree programs, 99 doctoral programs, and five first professional programs.
