A ggieland was born from generosity. In 1871, Brazos County residents donated 2,416 acres of land to establish the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, and selflessness has been intertwined in Texas A&M University’s story ever since. Thanks to generations of generosity, that initial gift of land has flourished into the state’s largest university, but that doesn’t mean philanthropy is any less important to its success today. Dive into the numbers to see the impact selfless individuals continue to have on Aggieland and the countless lives who interact with it.
PROPORTION OF TEXAS A&M’S BUDGET COVERED BY STATE FUNDS
As a public university, Texas A&M receives state funds, but this source has become an increasingly smaller piece of the maroon-and-white pie that makes the university’s academics and operations possible as Texas A&M has continued to grow. Instead, Aggieland has come to rely more on other sources—including tuition, research grants and private giving—to offer the best experience and education possible.
Many of these private gifts come through the Texas A&M Foundation, the university's primary academic fundraiser, which is a nonprofit and does not receive state funds. Donors play two key roles in Aggieland’s continued success: helping offset tuition costs for students and providing the extra boost needed to take Texas A&M’s programs from good to the excellent that Aggies deserve.
Impact of an Endowed Gift
When you give an endowed gift of $25,000 or more to the Foundation, we invest that money in our long-term investment pool. Each year, the investment’s endowment payout supports whatever area of Texas A&M you designated, while the original amount remains invested to continue growing and impacting Aggieland forever. Over time, these distributions can exceed the amount of your original gift, revealing the multiplication power of endowments.
Funds Made Available to Texas A&M Through the Texas A&M Foundation
Every year, the Foundation distributes millions of dollars from donors in support for Texas A&M. These distributions include immediate funds from non-endowed gifts and distribution payments from endowed gifts. Every dollar is made possible by selfless Aggies and friends of the university, who have continued to grow this number through the years thanks to their commitment to building a brighter future for Aggieland.

When a donor gives to the Foundation, every dollar supports the area they choose. Unlike many university foundations, the Foundation doesn't charge any fees on your gift, meaning 100% of your donation directly impacts the cause that's important to you. Whether it’s providing scholarship support for finance students, benefiting the engineering student organization where you met your best friends, boosting an exciting new program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences or funding cutting-edge Alzheimer’s research, you can tell us exactly where you want your gift to make an impact at the university you love.
Percentage of Alumni Who Give Back
No matter their age, Aggies are well known for their generosity. Even fresh out of college, some are already giving back, and more of their classmates join them every year.
As these former students have discovered, you don’t need to wait until you have the resources for a huge gift to start making a difference. Any gift to Texas A&M creates ripple effects as it not only impacts students during their college years but also leaves a mark on the countless lives they influence for the better thanks to the experiences that shaped them in Aggieland. It’s just another testament to what’s possible when Aggies stand together.
